Laundry vs. Dry Cleaning: What’s the Difference and When Should You Use Each?
Share
You are often confused about whether you should clean your garments at home or have them washed by dry cleaners. Both have their advantages.
In this post, we will explain the key differences between laundry and dry cleaning and when you should use each service:
- Laundry: This is a good old way of cleaning your garments using water and soap. It makes sense for clothes you use regularly and are not very expensive like T-shirts and jeans and bed linens that are not too expensive. Laundry is cost effective and time-saving for most of the garments though not advisable for some sorts of fabrics.
-
Dry Cleaning: The widely known process known as dry cleaning is not completely “dry” as it uses a liquid solvent rather than water. This method is suitable for silk, wool, or any other fabric that might be damaged by a standard pressing roller, or clothes with intricate embroidery. Dry cleaning also has the benefits of stain removal without compromising the size of the fabrics or their strength.
- When to Use Which Service: If you are in any doubt about which category a particular garment falls under, test it out – check the label. Wash and wear garments are clothes that can be worn casually, clothes such as T-shirts, casual dresses, or garments with simple designs should be washed while others such as suits, formal dresses, and garments with details, designs, or prints should be dry cleaned. On fabrics that can be stained, dry cleaning is preferable since it involves the use of strong solvents to remove dirt without causing harm to the fabric.
Hope this helped you decide.
